15 in x 17in, watercolor on paper, Private Collection
Part of an iron and rose series this painting came from a simple idea; what would happen if I painted the rigidity of iron with a single rose in a pitcher?
Always in pursuit of interesting props for the studio I came upon this Italian made pitcher in a thrift store. The pitcher’s sumptuous green glaze with relief designs would go well with a favorite subject of mine – roses. I found it to be a satisfying idea, one which has yet to be fully explored and so the series continues. Its companion piece is “Midnight Rose”.
(Incidentally, the pitcher leaks.)
